Dec. 2, 2020 Temporary in-person closure

Dear members of our Faith Lutheran family,

After much prayer and deliberation, the Church Council voted to once again temporarily suspend live, in-person worship due to COVID-19 concerns. A number of things factored into our decision. Texas has set daily highs for new positive cases over the last week. Bee County new cases are more than double and current active cases are 4 times the number from a month ago. Beeville high school and junior high went to virtual instruction for two weeks. Additionally many of us had family gatherings or traveled over the Thanksgiving weekend. Almost everyone is predicting a spike in cases after Thanksgiving. There has also been another recommendation from the Synod Bishop to suspend live worship. Finally, the age range of many of our member places them at higher risk.

This is not a decision we made lightly. All of us, Pastor, Church Council, and members of our Faith community are concerned about the future of our Church. We are aware of everyone's concerns and feelings, and have taken these into account. In the end though, the deciding factor is our concern for the health and well-being of the members of our Faith family. As followers of Christ our love and care for our neighbors should always override our own wants and desires, after all this was a command by Jesus not a request!

We are working on plans for parking lot church services for two Sundays in Advent and also a Christmas Eve service. The Christmas Eve service would need to be held in the late afternoon to end before dark. We want your input into planning future services; please contact Pastor or a council member with your ideas and concerns.

There is light at the end of the tunnel. Two vaccines for COVID-19 have been shown to be over 90% effective in the third stage of trials and both vaccines are being fast-tracked for approval and distribution. Other vaccines in development show great promise as well.

Please continue to pray for all affected by COVID, not just those who are sick, but all who have passed way and their families, and all of us as our lives continue to be impacted.

Yours in Christ,

Doug Bolland

Pastor, Gary
